understanding texts
I gave a one-week workshop at this year’s International Seminar Week at the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd focussing on the visualization of literary texts in order to re-understand them. After a one-day introduction to Processing and how programming can be used to extract and visualize information from textual data, the second to fourth semester design students have created print based visualizations of literary texts and other textual data sources of interest to them. The stunning results from four days of hard work range from the complex analysis of locations, characters and emotions within novels to the visualization of long-term weather data.
